Which Personal Trainer?
When choosing a personal trainer there are three areas to consider:
- Qualifications & knowledge
- Personal Application of knowledge
- Personality
Qualifications and knowledge
Level three is the highest qualification a trainer can have in the UK. There are several governing bodies for these qualifications, but the most recognised is YMCA. If you have never heard of the governing body, it is best to research it first. Any good personal trainer will be happy to talk to you about your goals before signing you up. Now you can have a good chat with them and this will help you to decide if they have a good knowledge base. Also you can ask around, especially if the trainer works in a gym/health club.
Personal Application of knowledge
Does the trainer practise what they preach. Ask them about their lifestyle and take a good look. Does the trainer have a good physique, are they into any sports, do they have a good diet.
Personality
It is imperative that you get on well with this person. If you don't like or respect them, you can't learn from them. They must also have a personality that motivates you. You need your trainer to be honest with you when it counts. If the trainer always tells you what you want to hear, you will waste a lot of time and money.
